Q: Is it
appropriate to work on Sundays and feast days?
A: In the 10 commandments described in the Old Testament,
it was about the fourth one: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six
days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath to
the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work”.
So, we see that the fourth commandment does not forbid
to work on Sunday as much as it appeals to devote this day to God.
However, we can serve the Creator not only with prayer
in a church. If we do something good for our neighbor, which is connected with
physical work, for example, helping your elderly relatives with household work,
then it will not be a violation of the fourth commandment.
In fact, by helping others we follow the fifth
commandment of the Law of God, which states: “Honor your father and your
mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives
you”.
